Toeside 540
Rider: Greg Tuman

The Toeside 540 is the easiest 540 to do on a wakeboard. It is stylish and can be grabbed, tweaked, and done off-axis in different ways. It also is a building block for other 540s and 720s.

Prerequisties
Before trying the Toeside 540 you should be able to do the following things:
1. Get good pop toeside
2. Toeside 180s and landing and riding switch
3. Toeside 360s with good control and time to spare in the air

Performing the trick
Watch this trick as a Quicktime movie.

Toeside 540 #1 Cut outside of the wake about 10-15 feet and take a light progressive edge towards the wake. You want to be in full control as you approach the wake. Stand tall with a little more weight on your back foot then your front foot and keep the rope in tight to your body as our rider does in the photo here.
Toeside 540 #2 Wait for a good clean pop when you take off. Then begin to pull the rope hard towards the small of your back, or even all the way back to your front hip. You need to start the handle pass earlier then you do on your regular toeside 360. Turn your head and shoulders in the direction of your rotation.
Toeside 540 #3 Pass the handle, then when you've completed a 360 you should have the rope in your front hand again and have a little bit of time before your going to land. If you don't have enough time to do a 180, then you need a bigger pop and faster rotation. As you're coming down, pull the handle towards your back hip, and pass the rope to your back hand if you can.
Toeside 540 #4 Finish your 180 and land with your weight even on both feet and be leaning back a bit. Faceplanting here is common as people have their weight too far forward when the finish the spin.

Style additions
There are lots things to add to this trick:
1. Learn it switch
2. Do a shifty toeside 540 off the double-up
3. Grab it nose, melon, method, mute, or slob!
4. Double-grab it by doing one of the above grabs and add an indy or stalefish grab after you pass the handle.
5. Take if off-axis by combining the 540 with a scarecrow-like pop and rotation.

Moving On
The Toeside 540 helps you do the following harder tricks:
1. Corkscrew (off-axis) 540
2. Grab and double-grab 540
3. Toeside 720
4. Toeside 900
5. Crow Mobe 540
