Australia To Host World's Largest Wakeboard Event
 
The World Wakeboard Association (WWA) and Gravity Games H20, today announced that the WWA Wakeboard World Series will conclude in Perth, following it’s seven-month tour around the world in search of an international champion. The combination of both these massive events will make it the world’s largest wakeboard event with a total prize pool of AUD$155,000 being presented at the event!

Gravity Games is the world’s premier action sports, music and lifestyle festival. Held in the US for the last six years, the event is making its Australian debut with Gravity Games H2O, presented by Vodafone in Perth on October 14, 2004. Over 60 of the world’s most impressive action sport athletes will be competing in Medal events include Wakeboarding and Kitesurfing, and demo events include BMX, inline and skate vert ramp.

Since the beginning of the 2004 WWA Wakeboard World Series, professional riders have been chasing the world championship title. Holding the current number one position in the competition is Daniel Watkins from Australia. With the series currently in Orlando, Florida at the WWA World Championships, Perth, Australia, is the next stop where the champion will be determined.

“The Gravity Games H20 features a blue ribbon wakeboarding contest and the WWA has 10 years of experience in promoting and developing the sport of wakeboarding. With these two groups working together, the world’s best riders and an Aussie in the lead - this is going to be one heck of a contest!” said Matt Stockwell, wake sports manager.

Spectators will be able to watch the battle for the winning title and heavy prize cheque at the Gravity Games H2O, McCallum Park, South Perth on Sunday the 17th October, 2004 from 11:30am to 2:00pm.

Gravity Games H20, the world’s premier action sports event, will be held in Perth from October 14 to 17, 2004. Perth recently won the right to host the global action sports competition and lifestyle event for the next three years, becoming the first host city in the world outside the United States.

The event will be staged at three unique Western Australian locations, including championship medal events in Wakeboarding in the Swan River along South Perth’s McCallum Park, and Kite surfing at Leighton Beach. Fuelling competition, prize money of $140,000 will be awarded across the two medal
sports. A death-defying Tow-In Surf exhibition event took place in the State’s South West in late August, the footage from which will be broadcast on giant screens at the Games.

Non-medal exhibition sports include Freestyle Moto X, BMX, skate and in-line Vert Ramp, all to be staged within an interactive Festival Village. The Village will also feature live music performances, giant screen broadcasts, opportunities to meet action sport and music idols, food concessions, product displays, and interactive areas including a BMX course, rock climbing wall, human gyroscope and more.
