Cable Wakeboarders Shine at OWC

Orlando, FL - The world famous Orlando Watersports Complex provided the backdrop for one of the best stops ever on the USA Cable Wakeboard Tour. Fresh from his win at the last stop at Texas Ski Ranch, veteran rider Rob Mapp made it two in a row on Saturday and is having the best year of his career. He is currently in first place in the Cable Wakeboard Tour Season Standings, and is vying for his first-ever Cable Wakeboard Tour Season Championship.

Mapp is not the only rider making his mark this year. Rapidly up-and-coming Campbell Smith sent the crowd into a frenzy when he stuck the first Double S-Bend to Blind in the history of the Cable Wakeboard Tour, landing it clean and earning him a razor-thin second place finish. Not to be outdone, Donald Shelbrick, 2003 Tour Champion and technical as ever, after finishing third decided after the contest to attempt a Double Heart Attack, a Double S-Bend to Blind 360. Though close, he came up short but gave the crowd a good taste of where cable wakeboarding is headed in the upcoming years.

OWC is also home to some of the best wakeskaters in the world. Newcomer Steven Campbell blew the crowd away with a huge acid drop off the roof at the motor tower, followed soon after by a clean Indy Superman off the new kicker, handily earning him a first place finish in the Wakeskate division. 2003 National Champion Zak Stone finished second, while Kyle Hyams landed third.

Junior Men, always a powerhouse division, saw Greg Heunis edging out Ski Rixen’s new sensation Brandon Brevil to capture first place. Jimmy LaRiche earned top honors in Boys, Matt Hickman took home first place in the Mens Division, and Doug Schumacher continued his sweep by earning the top spot in Masters. Jackie Brown continued her best year ever by capturing yet another first place medal in Open Women, while Kyle Mack took top honors in Juniors.
