Rio De Janeiro First Stop of World Wakeboard Series
The Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon will host the Ballantine's World Wakeboard Serires, held in April 2nd and 3rd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This will be the opening stop of the first WWA World Wakeboard Series which is an event circuit taking place all over the world.
The world`s best wakeboarder will be known after a series of six stops are completed. Together with Rio`s first WWS stop, the 2nd stop of the Brazilian National Stop will also be held during the same days and at the same site. The event site is located only a few blocks of World famous Ipanema Beach, and the riders will be able to spot the big Christ statue as they ride in the lagoon.
Many of the worlds best athetes already confirmed their participation in Rio de Janeiro, which should be enought to encourage wakeboard enthusiasts from all over the world to travel to Rio.
"The presence of such athletes in Rio will certainly boost the sport in Brazil, allowing the local riders to hang out and actually ride with these top riders." states Flavio Castello Branco, member of the Brazilian Wakeboard Association (ABW).
At least 30 riders should be competing in the event. Among the foreign riders that will ride in Rio are Brett Eisenhower (AUS), Daniel Harf (USA), Daniel Watkins (AUS), Darrin Shapiro (USA), Gator Lutgert (USA), Johnathan Nadloski (USA), Josh Sanders (AUS), Parks Bonifay (USA), Shane Bonifay (USA), Wes Brisco (USA), Zane Schwenk (USA).
Some of the top brasilian riders that will be competing in Rio are Marcelo "Marreco" Giardi , Marito Manzoli, Luiz Felipe Pamio , Rafael Kamogaw, Fábio de La Rosa and Jorge Chalub.
