Orlando, Florida (August 8, 2003) While taking the podium to accept the 2003 Indmar Performance award, Parks Bonifay couldn't contain his enthusiasm, "I feel phenomenal. I've been on the tour for a while and this has been the best year the tour has ever had. The judges, the sites and how everything was run was simply the best."
With that, Bonifay accepted the $5,000 Indmar Performance Award for winning the Pro Wakeboard Tour's Season Championship. This marks Bonifay's fourth time winning the distinction in his illustrious career. Only Darin Shapiro has won more titles than Bonifay with six.
Indmar Marine engines recognizes the top athletes in wakeboarding and water skiing every year through the Indmar Performance Awards. For Bonifay the Performance Award comes in recognition of his accomplishment in winning the 2003 Pro Wakeboard Tour Season Championship.
Bonifay won two events on the 2003 Pro Wakeboard Tour in Irvine, California and Portland, Oregon. Bonifay also added a second-place finish in Detroit, Michigan. Bonifay trailed in the overall Indmar Pro Tour Standings coming into the last event in Irvine, but a win in that final event sealed his fourth Pro Tour Season Championship.
Indmar gives $35,000 each year to the athletes competing on the Pro Wakeboard Tour and MasterCraft Pro WaterSki Championship. The Indmar Performance Awards in 2003 include bonus money presented to the top finishers in the semifinal rounds of the MasterCraft Pro WaterSki
Championship, the $5,000 Indmar Performance Award presented to the Men's Pro Wakeboard Tour Champion, and extra money for the purse in the Pro Women's events.
Indmar is also instrumental in growing the sport of wakeboarding through contributions of prize money to the MasterCraft Junior X Series, a six-event developmental tour that provides the Pro Wakeboard Tour's future stars with a proving ground before the jump to pro competition.
Points are accumulated throughout the course of the Pro Wakeboard Tour season on the basis of each tournaments final placement. The Indmar Pro Wakeboard Tour standings tract the competition throughout 2003, with the Pro Tour's top overall athlete taking the Indmar Performance Award.
