Moomba Outback Wins “Outstanding Tow Boat Value” Award

Skiers Choice, Inc., manufacturer of SUPRA and MOOMBA inboard boats is proud to announce that the new Moomba Outback has earned and won the “Outstanding Tow Boat Value” Award for Product Excellence for 2003! The awards ceremony was conducted May 3rd at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas resort hotel.

Powerboat Magazine’s 2003 Performance Report (January, 2003) found the Moomba Outback being a lot of boat for the money. With most comparable boats running in the $50,000 range, the test team says of the Outback, “it does everything the more expensive boats do, and does it just as well.” The price of a Moomba Outback (base price, $23,995) runs right around $28,595 as tested, which includes an engine upgrade, a tower, CD/MP3 player, bimini top, and color-matched trailer. Slalom skiers found the wakes to be flat and soft at various rope lengths and speeds. The wakeboarders testing the boat were impressed with the size of the wakes the Outback provided without the use of a ballast system. Powerboat’s test drivers were also impressed with the handling and praised the tracking ability of the 2003 Outback.
The awards issue (June 2003) of Powerboat Magazine states, “The Skier’s Choice Moomba Outback doesn’t just qualify for our Outstanding Tow Boat Value award because it’s worth every penny of its $28,595 asking price. It qualifies because it’s worth more”. The article goes on to point out the boat’s agility and up to par with that of any high-end tow boats tested during the 2003 Performance Trials. The towing ability dazzled their professional slalom skiers and the fact that the Moomba Outback was devoid of any wake-enhancing systems, the boat also kicked up hefty, nicely sloped crests with kicker lips that got their wakeboarder’s attention.
The Awards for Product Excellence program have been regarded for three decades as the most honored and respected marine awards in the boating industry. The annual awards are featured in the June issue of Powerboat Magazine.
