2003 Blindside Assassin Review

Reviewed by JJ Bauman

Greg Nelson and Blindside came together last summer and shaped a totally radical design for Blindside’s new Assassin Pro, the result: A fast board with excellent release from the wake. This is not Greg’s pro model, but a shape that he designed for the Blindside crew.

SIZE
The Assassin Pro comes in two sizes 139 cm and a smaller 134cm and has a center width of 16.5 inches . It has 2.5 inches of 3-stage rocker and it comes with four 1.5 inch fins. The Assassin Pro has a total weight of 6.5 lbs.

SHAPE
The shape of the Assassin Pro was designed for speed with a parallel fin setup and a 3 stage rocker. The extended cupped rails give a solid controllable release from the wake. Blindside has also included a deep center beam to dramatically soften the landings in the flats. The unique tip and tail shape was designed for a higher ride on the water.

GRAPHICS
Both the 139 and the 134cm have a futuristic graphic involving aliens, but the graphic is simple and appealing. The base includes a simple graphic of sighting crosshairs from a gun.

RIDE
I rode this board in good and bad water conditions and felt comfortable with my edge hold. This board was fast into the wake and created enormous pop, and the deep center beam was there for me on those super soft landings in the flats. Spinning was effortless due to the reduced weight in the tip and tail. I immediately felt comfortable with the ride and am convinced this is the board I will ride for 2003.

RATING
I rate this board a MUST BUY for anyone looking for a fast board with riding characteristics of a multi-fin board. The unique shape will definitely turn heads while you ride.
