(Redmond, WA) - BoardStock Promotions, Inc., the producers of BoardStock the world's largest and longest running wakeboarding lifestyle event, have announced Malibu Boats as the official towboat for 2002. The waters will be ruled by the 2003 Malibu Wakesetter VLX, which will make its official towboat debut at BoardStock, the final stop of the Malibu Just Ride Series, September 13th and 14th in Stockton, CA.
"Malibu has been a great partner in BoardStock, said Rob Stimmel the event's promoter, "and we are pleased that they have stepped up their participation for 2002. The Wakesetter is an awesome towboat and will provide an excellent pull for the world class athletes that are expected to participate." The Just Ride Series is a collection of events sponsored by Malibu Boats in High Point, NC, Minneapolis, MN, and Sacramento, CA. Boardstock becomes the fourth JRS event and as the last in the series, the name "Just Ride to Boardstock" stuck.
"The creation and successful execution of the Just Ride Series in 2001 proved Malibu's commitment to wakeboarding," pointed out Lani Farmer, Event and Team Coordinator for Malibu Boats. "This year, with BoardStock as the final Just Ride stop, we will find out just how much Malibu fun riders and spectators can handle!"
Malibu has sponsored BoardStock, wakeboarding's first lifestyle event, since it's northern California inception in 1996. In 2001, Malibu supported the highly successful freestyle motocross event. For 2002, Malibu will sponsor both events thus putting the Indmar Vortec powered WakeSetter VLX on the water as BoardStock's official towboat.
BoardStock started in Redding, CA at Shasta Lake but moved to Stockton in 2000 and has drawn crowds totaling more than 20,000 on the California delta. For 2002, the main event will again be held in the Stockton deep-water channel in downtown Stockton September 13 and 14 just beneath the I-5 overpass. The festival includes wakeboarding performances on both slider and freeride courses along with a freestyle motocross and skateboard half-pipe exhibition.
