SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Summer is just around the corner, and boarders across the country are itching to hit the wake. This summer, wakeboarders and boarding enthusiasts will have plenty of opportunities to live the boarding lifestyle, as MarineMax and MB Sports present a lineup of wakeboarding lifestyle events in California.
Wet Thursdays
The summer lineup kicks off with Wet Thursdays. For four consecutive Thursdays in June (June 9, 16, 23 and 30), MarineMax, MB Sports, and other event sponsors close off the Sacramento River for a few hours and take Old Sacramento by storm. The wakeboard competition kicks off at 4 p.m., when top area wakeboarders are invited to compete for a total of $1,000 in cash prizes each Thursday. MB Sports will provide tournament Wakeboard boats with 2500+ pounds of ballast to generate big tricks. Spectators are welcome and can watch from the decks of the Delta King Riverboat for free.
When the competition winds down at 8 p.m., the afterparty begins at the Paddlewheel Saloon onboard the Delta King. An awards ceremony will be held for the day’s competition, and the party will feature live music, food & drinks. Admission to the party is free.
Dark Fridays
When the sun sets, the outlaws come out, and some of northern California’s top riders compete for cash prizes. In August, Dark Fridays are the place to be. Wakeboard enthusiasts and competitors will enjoy two evenings of amateur wakeboard competitions, outlaw wakeboard competitions, prizes, product giveaways, music and food. It’s anyone’s game as the amateurs hit the water starting at 4 p.m.
Wakeboard Camps
Beginning wakeboarders won’t want to miss the first-ever MarineMax Wakeboard Camps at Tower Park Marina in Lodi, California. Three five-day sessions will feature wakeboarding work with head instructor Mike McMillen and other top area riders. At the end of July, one student will be chosen to spend the day with friends on the water wakeboarding with a Liquid Force pro rider.
