CableStock 2004-Bikinis, Beaches, Bands and Big Time Action
PRESS RELEASE:
Cablestock is about everything that the action sports lifestyle has to offer. Bringing the appreciation for the outdoor beach way of life together with the opportunity to ride as well as watch others compete, riders, spectators and beach dwellers will converge on Texas Ski Ranch for this 3-day festival and riding weekend.
“The spirit of Cablestock is the lifestyle of the individuals who enjoy or participate in action sports,” says Blake Hess, TSR Event Coordinator. “It’s three full days of beach, music and wake, skate and motocross riding at a venue that offers all of this at one place.”
He’s right. There’s no other place like Texas Ski Ranch in the world. A beach, cable lake, boat lake, skate park, motocross track, bar, grill and rider hangout all at one facility. Combine the drive of Cablestock with some of the number one growing sports in the country and you’ve got an unbelievable blueprint for one of the country’s best sport lifestyle events.
The weekend will kick off Friday May 14 when a “3-days for the price of one” cable lake and skate park wristband goes on sale for $38. The tunes will start spinning and the atmosphere will start buzzing as followers from around the country start arriving for the fun and festivities. That evening two of the area’s hottest musicians from San Antonio’s Howl at the Moon bring their own band, “Cannon Brothers” out to TSR to kick off the night festivities.
On Saturday both the cable lake and skate park will open at 9am for early risers to jump-start their day. DJ’s will be spinning tunes on the beach throughout the day as wakeboard and wakeskate competitions take place intermittently on the cable lake as well as the Mastercraft X-Series boat lake. And when the competition is not heating things up, spectators can take their turns on the cable lake, motocross track, or TSR’s skate park. On both Saturday and Sunday the Meltdown Auto show will be hosted on the festival grounds north of the cablelake.
Last year wakeboarders competed for cash and prizes, as Keith Lidberg of Orlando, FL won the Double Up competition on the boat lake and placed second in the Cable Sickest Trick competition, breaking all notions that a rider must choose between the cable or boat. Continuing that trend, former WWA world boat champion Donald Shelbrick won the Cable Sickest Trick competition with a flawless Double S-bend to blind. In the most fun and possibly most entertaining jackass-style competition of the weekend, WakeSkate Skeet Ball, Brandon Thomas went bigger, and launched off of his wakeskate and the kicker with more style than any other competitor to take home the crown.
This years event will include a Big Air Wakeboard comp on the cable which will showcase riders trying to make it over the stream of water shot out by the TSR motocross watering truck. The water will continue to be raised until just one rider remains! The ever popular Wakeskate Skeetball will return for its second year. Both of these competitions will be open for anyone to enter for just $10. On a more serious note riders will also compete in a short 7-10 minute heat which will put 6 athletes on the cable for the entire time. They will be competing against one another as stamina and talent both will come into play. There will be divisions for wakeskate, women and men’s wakeboard. The spots are filled by invitation only so expect to see 18 of the weekends best athletes in this fast and fun competition. Last but not least a few select riders will ride simultaneously as a two person team behind the 04 MasterCraft X-Star. Teammates will be picked at random out of a hat on the starting dock just prior to hitting the water. The two man teams will be judged on a subjective format. This event should be fun and entertaining for both the riders and the spectators. Oh yea for those of you interested the Board Shop Bikini Contest will begin at 9pm!
Saturday night local music will take the beachside stage. In addition, the TSR cable will run for an 8:30pm – midnight riding session under the stars Friday and Saturday (separate fee). Wakeboarding at night is a “must” experience for those of you that have obeyed the Texas public waterway laws and not taken the plunge as of yet. Skimming the water at night with only the tranquil sound of the water breaking from your board without the sound of any towboats or motors rivals a downhill run at Keystone under the lights; if you ride, you gotta do it.
TSR’s motocross track will be open to the public Saturday for individuals and families to enjoy the pee wee or main track for $15 per rider. The EVO Sports Vintage Series comes to TSR for Round 5 of their spring series on Sunday, providing a great opportunity for motox followers of all ages to enjoy vintage, evolution and modern race classes. The TSR motocross track sits directly on the shores of the TSR boat lake, providing a great backdrop to all of the water activities throughout the weekend.
Cablestock is designed for riders of all levels. This event is perfect for both beginners and competitive athletes in wake, skate and motox. All it takes is a little desire for some fun and action and your path is paved to TSR. The TSR staff has the know how to help you and/or your family experience some of the best that TSR has to offer. Whether it’s a first-time ride around the cable lake on a kneeboard or wakeboard, rolling the 15,000 skate park as a first timer, or roostin’ the motox track getting used to your new ride, TSR is all about making it a great experience. Some riders choose to give it a go on their own, while others get hooked up with one of TSR’s instructors for a lesson or clinic. At Cablestock, the goal is enjoying the action, no matter what level.
For those spectators coming out to TSR to take it all in, get ready for some laid back fun. Lounge chairs line the boat and cable lake beaches with music, food and drinks only steps away. Saturday night brings a bikini contest and tattoo/body piercing showoff for some great added personality to the event.
Texas Ski Ranch is located between San Antonio and Austin on IH 35. There is a $4 admission fee for spectators on Saturday and Sunday. Further information and directions can be found at www.texasskiranch.com or 830.627.2843.
