MasterCraft of Charlotte to Host New Year's Day Benefit

MasterCraft of Charlotte, a Charlotte area boat dealer and watersports equipment supplier Trinity Board Shop, will be hosting a “Polar Bear” run on New Year's Day, 2004 on Lake Wylie. The event is being held at T-Bones restaurant at the Buster Boyd Bridge and will benefit Dakota Gay, a 12 year old boy battling cancer. Participants are currently seeking sponsors and donations.

Notable “Polar Bear” run participants will include Maeghan Major, a two-time World Wakeboard Champion, X-Games Gold Medalist, and owner of Trinity Board Shop. “We’re hoping to have some fun and at the same time help out a young boy and his family” Maeghan said.

“Her notoriety should foster a lot of interest in this event and raise awareness of the plight of Dakota and many others in his situation,” said event organizer Kevin Hussey of MasterCraft of Charlotte. “We’ve been doing a Polar Bear event for a few years now and this year we’re ecstatic to be able to have some fun and to be able to do it while helping out”.

The event will feature a wakeboard demonstration by Major and a “Big Air Contest”. Participants are signing up sponsors who are donating based on various factors such as number of flips, “wake jumps”, and “slalom turns” while others are simply donating lump sums. Donations are currently being accepted at the following address:
