Utica, Michigan (June 7, 2003) - On the shore of Four Bears Water Park in Utica, Michigan the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour's top riders set their sites on the second stop of the 2003 season presented by Chevy Trucks and GM Vortec engines.
Saturday's crowd was treated to a full day of wakeboarding with nearly 100 riders competing on the day. In the men's pro ranks, some of the top names in the sport earned a spot into Sunday's semifinal round.
Leaders in Saturday's qualifying heats included 2003 Pro Wakeboarding Rookie of the Year Andrew Adkison and Danny Harf, the 2001 and 2002 X Games
Champion.
Shaun Murray, who is the defending champion of the Detroit Pro Wakeboard Tour stop, qualified first in his heat. Murray is riding for the first time in nearly a month after recovering from injury sustained in practice.
In the SeaDoo Watercraft Pro Wakeskate Series, Steven Schoenhals of Michigan placed first in his heat earning a place Sunday's wakeskate finals.
In the Junior Men's division defending champion and Michigan native Derek Grasman finished first in his quarterfinal and semifinal heat on Saturday, earning a place in Sunday's final.
Sunday's final action in the Pro Wakeboard Tour's Detroit stop will begin at 11 a.m. with the Pro Men's semifinals.
