MidWest Wake Fest 2002

MidWest Wake Fest is getting set to light the Illinois River Valley on fire! Make your plans now for MidWest Wake Fest, July 19th-21st, Four Star Marina, Ottawa Illinois.

The camping arrangements are set. The real estate that John and Dan have set aside for us at Four Star is right on the water. Those of you who make your plans first are gonna get to sleep (sleep?) less than 20’ from water. Twenty-five bucks is gonna get you a campsite and launching privileges at Four Star for the entire weekend. Tents, RVs and campfires not your gig? We’ve worked out some great rates with several area hotels for Wake Fest goers, see the website for details.

The Wake Fest flight officer, Sporty, took us up a few weeks ago for our first flight over the site. The landing was, as always, a little hairy but we got a couple of great pics for the website. Check them out at www.midwestwakefest.com.

We’ve got so many people from the wakeboarding community on board that it’s just incredible. Ten, count’em, ten boat dealers from all over the MidWest. That’s huge! Nowhere else anywhere! Competition Sports, Chicago Sea Ray, Rockford Marina, B3 Marine, Millers Sport Center, Lauderdale Lakes Marina, Stateamind Water Sports, Extreme Power Sports, and Barrington Marine MasterCraft, Calabria, Correct Craft, Supra, Moomba, Tige and more.

OneWest Clothing is coming out to give away more soft goods than you can wear all year. Y2Kp’s sending gear and so is Off Axis. Got enough t-shirts and hats? Double-Up, O’Brien and Hyperlite are sending gear as well. Bart’s Watersports is sending out some schwag for us to pass along. WakeTV’s on board and Canopy Effect Productions will be on hand to shoot the event. But who wants to be famous!?!

LadyBoarder.com is putting together several Ladies Boats with the support of Tige. Ladies, come on out and pass along your skills, learn something new and make some great new friends. There’ll be an Over-40 boat for our “mature audiences.” No pressure from the young bucks! If you are over 40 (or in the ballpark) and ride, then come on out and make your way to the 40+ boat. If you don’t ride but are looking for some motivation, then this could be it. Come on out and let the rest of the over 40 crew teach you how to wakeboard.

We’ve got a lot going on Wake Fest weekend, but here’s the condensed version of the schedule as it sits today. All day Friday we’ll be on the water free riding and offering up demos of everything that our sponsors can throw into the water. You name it, if you’ve been wanting to try it, ride it, drive or just crank the stereo, it will be here for you. Friday night is Wake Fest Party #1 on the patio at Four Star.

Saturday morning look for more free riding. You know what, just look for more free riding all weekend long and this is last you’ll hear about it in this press release. We’ll do a few social contests and give-aways during the midday at the marina. And then things are gonna heat up. John’s got a great party planned for the Marina Bar all afternoon…live music and other natural attractions that you won’t want to miss. Late in the afternoon on Saturday the Super Air will take to the water for the traditional MidWest Wake Fest Double-Up contest brought to you for 2002 by MidWest Correct Craft and EVS Sports. More water events for all abilities are in the works, but with four months of updates left we wanted to keep everyone guessing. Look for more info on these events in future updates and on the website at www.midwestwakefest.com. Saturday night is gonna erupt in the bar, so be prepared. More live music, more give-aways, contest winners and fine dining…did I say fine dining?

Sunday morning will see the Ladies’ Boat shove off in search of morning butter that shouldn’t be hard to find. And the SS Mature Audience (the Over 40 boat) will follow as soon as we’ve all had our coffee and croissants. A lot of great experience will be shared on the SS Mature Audience guys and ID’s will not be checked. E-mail us at mwwf2002@hotmail.com to confirm your spot. We all know how Sunday ends, pack it up, pack it in, teary-eyed good-byes and long drives…unless you’re plotting to hang around and have the Illinois River all to yourself on Monday. Maybe Wake Fest never ends!

See y’all July 19th at Four Star.
