Eleven Athletes Win National Titles
At 2008 USA Wakeboard Nationals Ninth annual event held in Elizabethtown, Ky.
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. - Eleven wakeboard riders won national titles at the ninth annual USA Wakeboard Nationals, Aug. 16-17, at Freeman Lake. Sanctioned by USA Wakeboard, the USA Wakeboard Nationals was part of USA Water Ski's National Championships Series of Events.
"We're pleased with the outcome of the 2008 USA Wakeboard Nationals," said Steve Locke, USA Water Ski’s executive director. "Elizabethtown proved to be an impressive venue for the event as well."
Athletes earning national titles were: Taylor McCullough (Centralia, Ill.) in Junior Girls; Nicholas Brown (Mc Daniels, Ky.) in Junior Boys; Freddie Wayne (Orlando, Fla.) in Boys; Meagan Ethell (Channahon, Ill.) in Girls; Corrie Dyer (Crossville, Tenn.) in Junior Women; Gunnar Shuler (Janesville, Wis.) in Junior Men; Austin Hair (Orlando, Fla.) in Open Men and Wakeskate; Jason Neagle (Elizabethtown, Ky.) in Master Men; Mike Ryder (Sunbury, OH) in Veteran; and Erica Dumeyer (Louisville, Ky.) in Amateur Women.
For the second consecutive year, the USA Wakeboard Nationals was held in conjunction with the NWL National Championships, an ability-based event for novice wakeboard riders. USA Wakeboard is one of nine sport disciplines of USA Water Ski, which was formed in 1939 as a non-profit organization promoting water skiing in the United States. USA Water Ski is affiliated with the International Water Ski Federation (world governing body) and is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and Pan-American Sports Organization as the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States.
