Tige' Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships in Marathon Will Decide Who's #1 for 2006
The King of Wake is a season-long points chase of the top nine events on the professional circuit. The dash to be the world's No. 1 rider and the $10,000 bonus has come down to five riders who all are within striking distance in the current standings. The five are a collection of the elite of the elite in the sport: Tino Santori, Andrew Adkison, Danny Harf, Rusty Malinoski and Shaun Murray.
Tino Santori leads this impressive group in the current standings with 1,265 points. From Littleton, Colorado, he just won his second WWA national title in August. That win pushed him to No. 1 on the chase for the crown. Right behind Santori is Andrew Adkison. Adkison pulled within 25 points of the lead after winning the WWA World Championships last month in Fort Worth, Texas. Tied with Adkison also 25 points back is Danny Harf. Harf, who’s from Orlando, Florida, won the Pro Wakeboard Tour this year and is a four-time X Games champion. Rusty Malinoski of Canada and Shaun Murray round out the eligible riders with 1,216 points and 1,186 points, respectively.
The format for the Tige' Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships is unique to this event. A "skins" format, where riders continue to accumulate points for skins as long as they keep winning, will be used again. The rider with the most wins or skins will be declared the winner after Sunday’s competition.
In addition to the pro men's competition, pro women and amateur titles will also be on the line in Marathon. Also on tap is the hottest new sport on the water, wakeskating (like skateboarding on water).
Admission is free to the event, which begins with quarterfinals rounds Friday morning, Nov. 3. The pro men's skins game is set to begin Saturday, with finals in all divisions Sunday. For more information, please go to King Of Wake.
