"A junior slated to be part of the first graduating class at Steele High School in Cibolo died in a head-on collision Thursday morning in Guadalupe County.
James Monroe Carroll II, 17, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Lumina east on Schumann Road near Marion around 9:26 a.m., said Eddie Wilson, Department of Public Safety communications supervisor.
The Lumina came to the crest of a hill at the same time as a Chevrolet pickup traveling west on the road, Wilson said. The accident report indicates the car was not far enough to the right of its lane and struck the pickup head-on, Wilson said. Carroll died at the scene."
I had the pleasure of meeting James and his dad a couple of years ago. At Waketoberfest in 2004 I ended up in the same boat with James and got the chance to watch him ride. He was a truly talented rider with a lot of potential. It's so sad to see someone like him go so young. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
