Kansas City, KS (July 9, 2005) – In what many said was the best Nationals to date, the 2005 cable wakeboard season came to a close on Saturday, as the brand-new KC Watersports pulled out all the stops to host the 5th USA Cable Wakeboard National Championships in Kansas City.

Rob Mapp outlasted an increasingly tough and ever-growing field of Open Men riders with his characteristic array of stratospheric tricks, including the USA’s first Inside KGB. However, Texas Ski Ranch made it clear it’s becoming a breeding ground for potent riders that are to be reckoned with, as Josh Wright answered with a huge technical run to take second, and Kyle Reed, with his signature Mobe 5, landing third.

Wakeskating on the cable is becoming insane. Stephan Schreiwer beat an increasingly dangerous crowd of wakeskaters coming from all four cableways in the USA to capture the second National Championship title of his career, edging out the always-consistent Kyle Hyams, who took second, and rapidly up-and-coming Chris Jordan, who landed third. Schreiwer wowed the crowd with a switch Big Spin off the dock and switch Back Lip Wall Ride, but sent the crowd into a frenzy when he ollied up and Back Lipped the entire 90 feet of the Flat Bar.

Acid Drops off the roof and other yahoo tricks were the order of the day in the Amateur Wakeskate division, dominated by KC riders, with Richard Bayly landing first first, Carter Collins taking second, and Brad Arnold finishing third.

The year 2005 cleared the deck with a slew of brand new National Champions. Heather Johnson captured the first National Championship title of her career in Open Women, while 2004 Champion Jackie Brown finished a close second, and Holly Hess finishing third.

Witt Finley captured his first National Championship in the increasingly powerful Junior Men division, sticking a Double S-Bend off the Tranny kicker, while Josh Bank landed his first National Champion medal with a flawless run in Boys. Doug Schumacher, always a consistent podium finisher, captured his first National Champion crown in Masters, while KC’s own Carter Collins landed his first National Championship in Amateur Men.

The 2005 Cable Nationals was also the fourth and final stop of the USA Cable Wakeboard Tour, where Overall Champions for the 2005 Tour were also announced. Rob Mapp captured his first Tour Champion title in Open Men, while Jackie Brown made it two in a row with another Tour Championship in Open Women. Doug Schumacher captured his second Tour Championship in Masters, while Diego Shaw landed his first Tour Overall title in Junior Men, and Chris Carpenter earning his first Tour Champion title in Amateur Men. Josh Bank made a clean sweep of all four stops of the Tour, easily winning his first Tour Championship crown in Boys.
