Team Malibu Rider Nominated For Laureus World Sports Award
Dallas Friday attended the Laureus World Sports Awards in Estoril, Portugal in hopes of accepting the World Alternative Sports Person of the Year Award.
(Merced, CA)- The 2005 Laureus World Sports Awards honoring the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen from around the world was held at the Casino Estoril in Portugal on May 16, 2005. Amongst the attendee's and nominee's was Malibu's very own Team Malibu Rider Dallas Friday. Friday was one of six phenomenal athletes nominated for World Alternative Sports Person of the Year.
As a nominee in the World Alternative Sports Person of the Year category, Dallas was chosen with five other athletes who are as passionate about their sport as she is. These nominee's included Darren Berrecloth from Canada a Mountain Bike Freerider, Gunn-Rita Dahle from Norway a Mountain Bike Racer, Mike Horn from South Africa an Explorer, Ellen MacArthur from England a Yachtswoman/Solo Sailor, Shane McConkey from the USA a Freeskier, Base Jumper and last but not least, Dallas Friday from the USA a Wakeboarder.
Presenters for the World Alternative Sports Person of the Year Award included Owen Wilson, who acted in such films as "Meet the Parents" and "Shanghai Knights" and world renowned skate boarder, Tony Hawk. The award was presented to Ellen MacArthur the Yachtswoman/Solo Sailor from England. MacArthur set the record for a round-the-world solo sail, making her the recipient of the World Alternative Sports Person of the Year Award.
Although Friday didn't come home with the award, she was very honored to have been nominated and to have had the chance to be recognized among some of the world's top athletic competitors.
